First, reduce the cycle of irritation

Dark marks often appear after a blemish or irritation has settled. Scrubbing, picking, and frequently changing strong products can keep that cycle going. Treat active breakouts gently and resist the urge to polish pigment away.

Support gradual renewal

Ingredients such as niacinamide, azelaic acid, and vitamin C are often used in tone-focused routines. Introduce one at a time, patch test, and follow the product directions. Daily sunscreen matters because ultraviolet and visible light can deepen the appearance of existing marks.

Measure progress slowly

Visible changes take time. Monthly photographs in similar lighting can be more useful than checking every day. If marks change unexpectedly, become raised, or do not improve, consult a qualified dermatologist.
